Social networking will spread to news sites
Erik Sass at Online Media Daily writes that The Washington Post has increased readership this year by introducing social network style interaction to its website. Personally when I visit a site I want to be able to browse without creating a login. Both the Washington Post and The New York Times online require registration, albeit free, to read articles. Sass also notes that Nielsen has conducted a study which finds that certain power users fall into a category which it calls My.Internet. The findings show that 22 percent of the My.Internet group use RSS feeds. I think that this number is considerably higher and hope that more news sites consider publishing RSS feeds for entire articles.
